The Kings Mountain Gateway Trail, as part of the Carolina Thread Trail, is planned to connect the City of Kings Mountain to Crowders Mountain State Park, Kings Mountain State Park and Kings Mountain National Military Park. The trail is open to the public and currently has 7.5 miles of trails open that consist of paved trail and soft-packed gravel trail. The trail head consists of a restroom/office facility, parking for over 30 vehicles, a bike rack and kiosk, plus a picnic shelter that includes nine picnic tables and two large grills.  An annual 5K/10mile/Fun Run fundraiser takes place the second Saturday in March.  Several other events also take place during year.
